The Blood Bank has been recently added to the laboratory. It has been established on donation of blood on exchange basis and thus encourages family donors to donate healthy screened blood for treatment of patients.

Each unit of blood is typed for blood group, screened for Hep. B Surface Ag, Hep C Antibody, HIV, VDRL, SGPT MP and Hb levels above IIG.

The screening is done on new generation automated analyzers and EIA machines. In case of borderline tests, they are cross checked on different machines and by different methods.

The blood products that can be supplied include:

  1. Red Cell concentrates (packed cells)
  2. Fresh frozen plasma
  3. Platelets

Blood bags and products are stored under prescribed conditions. The OMI blood bank has address the primary concerns in the operation of blood transfusion including a highly accurate system of cross matching and safe guarding against transmission of micro biological agents.
