What is the preferred diagnostic test for COVID-19?
PCR test is the preferred diagnostic test for suspected COVID-19.
How is it performed?
The lab technician will take a swab from one of the nasal passages of people above 08 years of age. However, for children aged 08 years or below the swab will be taken from the throat.
Is this test painful?
No, but some people may experience a little discomfort.
Does this test require any preparation?
No preparation is required.
When should the PCR test be done?
Usually within 5 to 6 days of the start of the symptoms e.g., fever, body ache, sore throat, cough or breathlessness etc. The test can also be done whenever the attending doctor orders it.

What is the rapid antibody test for COVID-19 & is it performed in OMI Lab?
This is a blood test which measures the antibody response to COVID-19 infection and it is being performed in OMI Lab.
When this test should be done?
Ideally an antibody test should be done 7 days after the following:
Onset of the above-mentioned symptoms
After possible exposure to a patient of COVID-19
After attending a gathering of more than 10 people

All items relating to patient’s treatment are provided in the hospital including patient’s gown and bedding etc.

As per requirement of the patient, we have general ward, semi and private rooms, deluxe & VIP rooms, as well as cardiac observation rooms, neo-natal intensive care, intensive care unit and COVID-19 (isolation, quarantine and ICU).
Is your ER efficient enough to tackle serious cases?
Absolutely, as it is manned by a team of doctors and other medial staff who know how to respond speedily and effectively to medical and surgical emergencies.

What documents shall I bring at the time of admission?
Consultant’s letter, patient & attendant’s CNIC and appropriate advance/companies authority letter & employee’s card (if you are a corporate patient).

For all admitted patients, consultants visit the wards every day.
Do you provide meals to the patient and their attendant?
Meals to the patient are provided. Attendants can order their meals etc., from the cafeteria and pay them directly.
How many attendants are allowed?
One attendant per patient and two attendants are allowed at the time of surgery only.
For COVID-19 patients, the attendant timings are confined to these three slots: 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., 2:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in these slots the attendant can meet with the medical officer and get all the updates of his/her patient.
