These symptoms are potentially deadly and require the patient to be rushed to the nearest hospital immediately.

PREVENTION

The following practices can be used to protect oneself from getting infected:

Wear mask and gloves at
all public places

Avoid touching your eyes,
nose and mouth as much as possible

Maintain a 6-foot distance with anyone especially if he/she is coughing or sneezing

Cover your nose and mouth with tissue paper or use your bent elbow when you cough or sneeze

Clean your hands as frequently as possible. This can be done by washing your hands with soap for 20 seconds or use a hand sanitiser.

Avoid any public gatherings as much as possible

Stay at home if you observe any common or
less common symptoms mentioned earlier

The Emergency Care Unit is at your service 24/7 along with diagnostic services of laboratory and radiology. Our trained and qualified staff are available round the clock to facilitate you and all the necessary services for the treatment will be provided when the patient is admitted.

Designated Ward for COVID-19 Patients:

OMI Hospital is one of the largest private sector hospitals, with a purpose built COVID-19 setup in Karachi. We have established a fully functional COVID-19 facility in the premises consisting of:

  •   Intensive Care Unit
       (fully equipped with ventilators and all vital equipment)
  •   Quarantine Rooms
  •   Isolation Rooms

Quarantine & Isolation Ward:

When a patient not tested previously for COVID-19 and requires admission, he/she will be accommodated in the Quarantine Ward and simultaneously COVID PCR will be done.

If the patient is found to be positive for COVID-19, he/she will be shifted to the Isolation Ward for further treatment. In case, the result is negative, the patient will be shifted to Non-COVID areas.

COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU):

Patients with positive COVID PCR test having serious symptoms are accommodated. All COVID-19 ICU beds are equipped with ventilators and other specialized medical equipment e.g. BIPAP, CPAP, High Flow Nasal Oxygen Device, which may be required during the treatment of the patient.

COVID-19 Delivery Unit:

We are one of the very few hospitals catering to maternity cases where the mother is COVID-19 positive. In addition, should the newborn baby also be COVID-19 positive all necessary arrangements are in place for the baby.

DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES

24/7 fully automated following testing facilities are available at OMI and patients do not need to book an appointment before visiting the hospital premises for testing:

SARS COV-II RNA by PCR (COVID-19 PCR)

SARS COV-II (Rapid Antibody Test)

Viral Markers which includes CRP, LDH, D-DIMMER, FERRITIN and PROCALCITONIN and other routine tests

In Radiology Department, Chest X-ray and HRCT Chest Investigations are also available round the clock. CT Pulmonary Angiogram can also be performed at designated slots.

PATIENT'S HEALTH BRIEFING

For COVID-19 patients, the attendant timings are confined to these three slots:

8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

2:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

8:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

In these slots the attendant can meet with the medical officer and get all the updates of his/her patient.

An Attendant is only allowed in “Special Scenarios” which can be discussed when you arrive at the facility.

FAQs

Answers to frequently asked questions regarding lab tests for COVID-19 via Home Health Care Service:

PCR test is the preferred diagnostic test for suspected COVID-19.
The lab technician will take a swab from one of the nasal passages of people above 08 years of age. However, for children aged 08 years or below the swab will be taken from the throat.
No, but some people may experience a little discomfort.
No preparation is required.
Usually within 5 to 6 days of the start of the symptoms e.g. fever, body ache, sore throat, cough or breathlessness etc. The test can also be done whenever the attending doctor orders it.
Currently the OMI Health Care Service operates round the clock 7 days a week.
This is a blood test which measures the antibody response to COVID-19 infection and it is being performed in OMI Lab.
Ideally an antibody test should be done 7 days after the following:
  • Onset of the above-mentioned symptoms
  • After possible exposure to a patient of COVID-19
  • After attending a gathering of more than 10 people
